The Triumph of the Saints
Revelation 12:10-12
Scripture · Revelation 12:10-12
10And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down— he who accuses them day and night before our God. 11They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. And they did not love their lives so as to shy away from death. 12Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea; with great fury the devil has come down to you, knowing he has only a short time.”

John continues his vision in Revelation 12 by describing the response to Satan’s defeat. This passage highlights the victory of Christ and the triumph of believers who overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.
“Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: ‘Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.’”
Exegesis and Study
The Proclamation of Victory: The loud voice in heaven announces the arrival of salvation, power, the kingdom of God, and the authority of Christ. This proclamation celebrates the defeat of Satan, the “accuser of
our brothers and sisters,” who has been cast down from heaven. The victory of Christ ushers in the full manifestation of God’s kingdom and the authority of His Messiah, Jesus Christ.
The Overcoming Power of Believers: The passage highlights how believers overcome Satan—by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. The blood of the Lamb refers to the sacrificial death of Jesus, which secures redemption and victory for believers. The word of their testimony signifies the faithfulness of believers in proclaiming and living out the truth of the Gospel, even in the face of persecution or death.
The Finality of Satan’s Defeat: While Satan’s defeat is celebrated in heaven, the passage also warns of his fury on earth, as he knows his time is short. This indicates that while Satan’s ultimate defeat is assured, he remains a dangerous adversary until the final consummation of God’s plan.
Practical Application
Overcoming Through Christ: Believers are called to overcome evil not through their own strength but through the victory already won by Christ. This victory is accessed through the blood of Jesus and the faithful testimony of His followers. We are reminded that our strength comes from Christ’s sacrifice and our commitment to living out our faith.
Living with an Eternal Perspective: The reminder that Satan’s time is short encourages believers to live with an eternal perspective. We are called to endure suffering and persecution with the knowledge that Christ’s victory is final and that we share in His triumph. This
perspective empowers us to remain faithful, even in the face of trials.
Prayer Guide
Pray for the Strength to Overcome: Ask God for the strength to overcome the challenges and temptations you face by relying on the victory of Christ. Pray for the courage to bear witness to your faith, even in difficult circumstances.
Pray for an Eternal Perspective: Reflect on the significance of living with an eternal perspective. Pray for the wisdom to focus on God’s kingdom and to prioritize what truly matters in light of eternity.
