9You, however, are controlled not by the flesh, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.

Paul reassures believers that they are not in the realm of the flesh but in the realm of the Spirit, provided that the Spirit of God lives in them. He explains that if Christ is in them, the Spirit gives life to their mortal bodies, even though their bodies are subject to death because of sin.
“You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”
Exegesis and Study
The Indwelling of the Spirit: Paul emphasizes that every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The presence of the Spirit is the defining mark of a Christian, and it is through the Spirit that believers experience the life and power of Christ. The Spirit’s indwelling assures us that we
belong to Christ and that we are no longer under the control of the flesh.
The Life-Giving Power of the Spirit: Even though our physical bodies are subject to death because of sin, the Holy Spirit gives life to our mortal bodies. This refers not only to the future resurrection of our bodies but also to the present reality of the Spirit’s life-giving power at work in us, enabling us to live in righteousness and victory over sin.
Practical Application
Living in the Realm of the Spirit: Since the Spirit of God dwells in us, we are called to live in the realm of the Spirit, where we are empowered to overcome the flesh and live in righteousness. This involves daily relying on the Holy Spirit for strength, guidance, and the power to live out our faith.
Experiencing the Spirit’s Life-Giving Power: We can experience the Spirit’s life-giving power in our daily lives by surrendering our weaknesses, fears, and challenges to God and trusting the Holy Spirit to work in and through us. This includes trusting God for physical healing, emotional restoration, and spiritual renewal.
