John 14:27

The Spirit of Peace and Comfort, John 14:27

Scripture · John 14:27

27Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

Berean Standard Bible (BSB), public domain.

Jesus promises His disciples peace through the Holy Spirit, a peace that surpasses all understanding. This peace is not dependent on external circumstances but is a deep, abiding assurance that comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Exegesis and Study

The peace Jesus offers through the Holy Spirit is unique and transcendent. It is not like the temporary peace the world offers, which is dependent on circumstances. Instead, it is a peace that remains even in the midst of trials, rooted in the victory of Christ over the world and its troubles.

Practical Application

In a world filled with uncertainty and challenges, the Holy Spirit offers us a peace that transcends our understanding. By trusting in the Spirit’s presence, we can experience this peace regardless of our circumstances, knowing that Christ has overcome the world.

Prayer Guide

Prayer Focus: Ask the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with peace and comfort, especially in times of trouble.

Prayer

“Lord, I seek Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Fill me with Your Spirit’s comfort, and help me to trust in Your victory over every challenge I face. Amen.”
