16Meanwhile, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain Jesus had designated. 17When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some doubted.

Before Jesus delivers the Great Commission, Matthew records the moment when the disciples meet the resurrected Christ on the mountain in Galilee. When they see Him, they worship Him, though some doubt. This scene highlights the first and primary aspect of the Church’s mission: to minister to God through worship and devotion.
Exegesis and Study
Worship as the Foundation of Mission: The disciples’ response to the resurrected Christ is worship, which underscores the Church’s primary mission to minister to God. Worship is the heart of the Church’s life, and it is the foundation from which all other aspects of the mission flow. In worship, the Church acknowledges the sovereignty, holiness, and worthiness of God, offering praise, adoration, and thanksgiving.
Faith Amidst Doubt: The mention that some of the disciples doubted serves as a reminder that faith and doubt often coexist in the journey of discipleship. However, even in the presence of doubt, the act of worship remains central. This highlights the importance of focusing on Christ and His authority, even when our faith is challenged.
Practical Application
Prioritizing Worship: In our personal and corporate lives, prioritizing worship means making time to focus on God’s presence, offering Him praise and adoration. This might involve setting aside specific times for prayer, reflection, and worship, both individually and as a community. Worship is not just an event but a lifestyle that influences every aspect of our lives.
Engaging in Worship Despite Doubt: Recognizing that doubt is a natural part of the Christian journey, we can still choose to engage in worship. This choice reflects a commitment to God, even when we don’t have all the answers. By bringing our doubts to God in worship, we open ourselves to His presence and allow Him to strengthen our faith.
Prayer Guide
Pray for a Heart of Worship: Ask God to deepen your desire to worship Him and to help you prioritize worship in your daily life. Pray for a heart that is fully devoted to God, offering Him praise and adoration in all circumstances.
