John 16:7
Berean Standard Bible (BSB), public domain.
Jesus tells His disciples that it is for their good that He goes away because His departure will result in the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit’s arrival empowers believers to fulfill the Great Commission, equipping them with the boldness and spiritual gifts needed for their mission. Scripture Passage 4 John 16:7; Acts 1:8 “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Jesus emphasizes the necessity of His departure for the coming of the Holy Spirit, highlighting the profound impact the Holy Spirit would have on the disciples’ ability to carry out their mission. In Acts 1:8, Jesus further explains that the
Holy Spirit will empower the disciples to be His witnesses, not just locally in Jerusalem but to the ends of the earth. This empowerment is not merely for personal edification but for the advancement of the Gospel and the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan.
As believers, we are called to be witnesses of Christ in our everyday lives. The Holy Spirit empowers us with boldness, wisdom, and spiritual gifts to share the Gospel effectively. We should regularly seek the Spirit’s empowerment, especially when faced with opportunities to testify about our faith or to serve in ministry. Understanding that this empowerment is essential for fulfilling our God-given mission helps us to depend on the Holy Spirit rather than on our own strength.
Prayer Focus: Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you for the mission God has called you to, giving you the boldness, wisdom, and gifts needed to be an effective witness for Christ.
“Holy Spirit, I ask for Your power to be a bold and faithful witness of Christ in my life. Equip me with the gifts and wisdom needed to fulfill the mission You have entrusted to me. May my life be a testimony of Your grace and truth. Amen.”
