10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints. 19Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will boldly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it fearlessly, as I should.

Paul concludes his instructions for Christian living with a powerful exhortation to stand firm in the face of spiritual warfare by putting on the full armor of God. He emphasizes that the battle Christians face is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil.
Exegesis and Study
Spiritual Warfare: Paul makes it clear that Christians are engaged in a spiritual battle, and therefore need spiritual armor. The enemy is not merely human opposition but spiritual forces that seek to undermine and destroy the work of God in the believer’s life. This battle requires strength that comes from the Lord and the use of spiritual resources that God provides.
The Armor of God: Paul describes the armor of God in detail—truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace,
faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer. Each piece of armor represents an aspect of the believer’s spiritual life that is essential for standing firm against the attacks of the enemy. Truth and righteousness protect the believer’s integrity and moral standing; the gospel of peace provides stability and readiness; faith acts as a shield against doubt and temptation; salvation assures the believer of their secure position in Christ; the Word of God serves as the offensive weapon against lies and deception; and prayer empowers the believer to stay connected with God and to persevere in the battle.
Practical Application
Putting on the Armor Daily: The call to put on the full armor of God is a daily discipline. Practically, this means beginning each day with a focus on God’s truth, seeking to live righteously, grounding oneself in the gospel, strengthening one’s faith, renewing the mind with the assurance of salvation, immersing oneself in Scripture, and committing everything to God in prayer. It’s about living in a state of spiritual readiness, aware of the spiritual realities we face and prepared to stand firm in faith.
Engaging in Spiritual Warfare: Understanding spiritual warfare helps believers to identify the true source of opposition and struggle in their lives. Rather than fighting against people or circumstances, believers are called to fight the spiritual battle through prayer, reliance on God’s Word, and faith in Christ’s victory over evil. This involves being vigilant against the devil’s schemes, resisting temptation, and standing firm in the faith.
Prayer Guide
Pray for Spiritual Strength and Protection: Ask God to help you put on the full armor of God each day, providing you with the strength and protection needed to stand firm against spiritual attacks. Pray for the wisdom to recognize the enemy’s schemes and the courage to resist them.
Pray for Victory in Spiritual Battles: Reflect on any spiritual battles you are currently facing. Pray for victory in these areas, trusting in God’s power and provision to overcome the enemy’s attacks and to stand firm in your faith.
