46At this, King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, paid homage to Daniel, and ordered that an offering and incense be presented to him. 47The king said to Daniel, “Your God is truly the God of gods and Lord of kings, the Revealer of Mysteries, since you were able to reveal this mystery.” 48Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many generous gifts. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon. 49And at Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to manage the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the king’s court.

After hearing the interpretation of his dream, King Nebuchadnezzar is overwhelmed and acknowledges the greatness of Daniel’s God. He rewards Daniel with high honors, promoting him to a position of great authority in the kingdom, and also honors Daniel’s friends at Daniel’s request.
“The king said to Daniel, ‘Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.’ Then the king placed Daniel in a high position and lavished many gifts on him. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of all its wise men. Moreover, at Daniel’s request the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained at the royal court.”
Exegesis and Study
Nebuchadnezzar’s Acknowledgment: Nebuchadnezzar’s response is one of awe and reverence for Daniel’s God. He acknowledges that Daniel’s God is superior
to all other gods and kings, recognizing Him as the revealer of mysteries. While this acknowledgment does not yet constitute a full conversion to the worship of Yahweh, it is a significant moment of recognition of God’s power and sovereignty.
Daniel’s Promotion: Daniel’s faithfulness and wisdom lead to his promotion to a high position in Babylon, overseeing the province and the wise men. This promotion reflects the biblical principle that God exalts those who honor Him. Daniel’s request for his friends to be promoted as well shows his loyalty and commitment to those who have stood with him in faith. The promotion of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego sets the stage for their own trials and testimonies in the chapters that follow.
Prayer Guide
Pray for Recognition of God’s Sovereignty: As Nebuchadnezzar recognized the greatness of Daniel’s God, pray for the people in your life—especially those in positions of influence—to come to recognize God’s sovereignty and power. Pray for opportunities to be a witness to God’s greatness through your words and actions.
Pray for Faithfulness in Success: Reflect on the promotions and successes you have experienced. Pray for the grace to remain faithful to God, using your influence to honor Him and to support others who share your faith. Ask God to help you navigate success with humility and integrity. Conclusion: Daniel’s Wisdom in Daniel 1-2 The opening chapters of the Book of Daniel present a powerful testimony of God’s wisdom at work in the life of a
faithful servant. Daniel’s story illustrates the importance of maintaining one’s faith and integrity in the face of cultural pressure, the power of prayer in seeking God’s guidance, and the significance of recognizing God as the ultimate source of all wisdom and knowledge. Daniel’s ability to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dream is not just a demonstration of his personal intelligence but a manifestation of divine wisdom granted to him by God. Through this gift, Daniel not only saves his own life and the lives of his friends but also brings glory to God in a foreign land. As we reflect on Daniel 1-2, we are reminded that true wisdom comes from God and that He reveals His wisdom to those who seek Him with a humble and faithful heart. May Daniel’s example inspire us to pursue God’s wisdom in all areas of our lives, to remain steadfast in our faith, and to use the gifts and opportunities God gives us to honor Him and advance His kingdom.
