8Noah, however, found favor in the eyes of the LORD. 9This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God. 10And Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and full of violence. 12And God looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt; for all living creatures on the earth had corrupted their ways.

Amid the widespread wickedness, one man stands out: Noah. “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord” (Genesis 6:8). Noah is described as “a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God” (Genesis 6:9). This introduction to Noah sets the stage for the narrative that follows, highlighting the importance of righteousness and faithfulness in the eyes of God. Noah’s favor with God is not just about personal piety; it also reflects God’s desire to preserve a remnant of humanity that is committed to His ways. Noah’s righteousness becomes the foundation for the covenant that God will later establish with him.
